Job Description

There is an opening in The Blade's award winning newsroom for a full-time Sports Reporter.

Duties: Will write urgent breaking news stories for The Blade's website and apps. Identify and chase impactful stories that fall between core beats and engage Toledo-area readers. Will display concise writing that is friendly for an online audience. Must be confident covering multiple sports at multiple levels and demonstrate a firm understanding of both popular and minor sports. Will assist in college and high school beat coverage when needed. May be tasked with being the primary writer for the Toledo Mud Hens minor league baseball team. Must be comfortable on video and podcast. Will take/edit own postgame video at sporting events. The position will involve evening and weekend work.

Qualifications: Must have demonstrated success writing under deadline pressure and uniquely for digital platforms. Must have experience with and understanding of digital media practices and workflow. Experience covering a wide variety of sports, from high school to college to professional. Highly organized and detail-oriented with a proven ability to juggle multiple tasks. The successful candidate should have the ability to follow what’s trending locally and find ways to localize national trends. Ability to report quickly and accurately is a must. College degree is required.
